Announcing the Vellum Collection of Bespoke Luminous Artifacts
After three years of engineering bespoke lighting installations exclusively for our private commissions, the studio is quietly releasing a highly curated selection of artifacts to the public, beginning with the Vellum Collection.
Translating Architecture to Object
The Vellum series was born from a desire to capture the ethereal quality of natural light passing through a delicate membrane. By stretching hyper-thin, translucent materials over rigid, patinated brass frames, we created a series of luminaires that feel both structurally severe and impossibly fragile.
The Limited Run
To maintain the uncompromising standards of our custom fabrication discipline, the collection will not be mass-produced. Each piece is cast, stretched, and patinated by hand in our primary workshop, limited to an initial run of fifty physical artifacts.
The Translucent Membrane
The core of the collection revolves around a bespoke composite material that mimics the organic irregularities of animal vellum. When unlit, it appears as a cold, structural skin. When illuminated, it becomes entirely porous, glowing with a warm, uneven, and profoundly human light.
Patinated Brass Frameworks
The delicate membrane is caged within heavy, unyielding brass structures. We hand-patina the metal using a chemical oxidization process, deliberately aging the fixtures so they arrive feeling like ancient artifacts rather than newly manufactured products.
Engineering Fragility
There is a distinct luxury in fragility. The Vellum luminaires require a deeply careful, intentional interaction from the user. You cannot simply throw a switch; the sheer delicate nature of the artifact demands a momentary pause and a quiet reverence from the inhabitant.
The Casting Process
Every brass joint in the collection is sand-cast. We rejected modern CNC machining because it produces a flawless, sterile finish. The sand-casting process leaves behind microscopic pitting and textural grit, ensuring every single light fixture possesses a totally unique geological fingerprint.
Casting Light as Form
These fixtures are not designed to violently illuminate a room; they are designed to cast light as a physical form. The Vellum collection creates pools of soft, highly localized illumination, pulling the eye inward and establishing small, intimate sanctuaries within larger architectural volumes.
Public Procurement
Historically, our custom fabrications were entirely restricted to full-scale turnkey clients. The release of the Vellum Collection marks the first time the studio is allowing our specific brand of physical restraint to be procured and placed into external environments.
